The studies were carried out in 2003-2021 in various types of ecosystems of the Ramsar wetland Lower Prut Lakes. A total of 25 species of small mammals were recorded. The common and eurytopic species hedgehog, mole and mole rat were observed in various types of ecosystems with characteristic or constant ecological significance. The shrews, represented by 5 species, with significant predilection for wetlands, constituted only 5% of all small mammals. The most abundant were the rodent species of genus Apodemus, dominant in various types of wetland ecosystems, among which dominated the wood mouse with more than 31%. The multiannual dynamics of shrew and rodent communities in the wetland Lower Prut Lakes show pronounced multiannual variations, mainly due to climatic conditions. Several rare species, included in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova have been registered: Neomys anomalus, Crocidura leucodon, Spermophilus suslicus, Cricetus cticetus and Micromys minutus. The site represent an important area for mammal diversity conservation. |
