Postmodernism refers to all the currents of thought, the social and philosophical realities of the late twentieth century. Eclecticism and polemics are the pillars of the postmodern literature, for the idea of postmodernism is also abstract – the question of knowledge is outside the individual. Contradictions are noticeable at the definition level, as there are as many definitions of current as there are theoreticians. Even the postmodernist's condition presents us original visions such as the fact that a work is postmodernist only because its creator has the consciousness of his „belonging‖ to postmodernism. These controversies contribute to the formation of a multilateral vision of postmodernism and should not be misleading.

Postmodernismul desemnează cam toate curentele de gândire, realitățile sociale şi filosofice de la sfârșitul secolului al XX-lea. Eclectismul și polemica sunt pilonii postmodernismului literar, căci ideea postmodernismului este şi ea abstractă – problema cunoașterii e exterioară individului. Contradicţii se remarcă la nivel de definire, căci sunt tot atâtea definiții ale curentului câți teoreticieni există. Viziuni originale ne oferă chiar condiţia postmodernistului şi anume faptul că opera e postmodernistă doar din cauza că creatorul ei are conştiinţa «apartenenţei» sale la postmodernism. Controversele date contribuie la formarea unei viziuni multilaterale asupra postmodernismului şi nu trebuie să ne inducă în eroare.
