Rezumat

Graphic materials stored in the Russian State Military-Historical Archive in Moscow helped fill several gaps concerning fortress built near the town of Chișinău in the late XVIII century during the Russian-Turkish wars. Bastion fortress surrounded by a dry moat had an irregular quadrangular plan. Its corners were reinforced by powerful bastions. Incorporated into the building was a two-level fortified outpost with loopholes and embrasures located along the south-east curtain. From the north-east it was reinforced by redoubt and two lines of palisade and to the south – by one line of palisade. Inside the fortress there were barriers and traverses, large provision storage and the still existing church of Saints Constantine and Elena (Râscanu). Three entrance gates led to the patio. The author advances a number of arguments in favor of the version that this bastion fortress was designed and built by Russian military engineers in 1789 for two battalions and four squadrons of the tsarist army. The article presents for the first time the name of the person who designed the fortress located near Chișinău – captain Egor Tominov. He was helped by Demian Grigoriev, who completed basic drawing work.
