The process of formation of the schooling system in Bessarabia during this period is characterized by the following features:
a) In comparison with the tendencies of scholarship development in other regions of Russian Empire it appears to be more accelerated, due to geo-strategical interests of the government in the newly annexed territory b) Despite of government policy of conservatism in education and other spheres of life, in Bessarabia in an accelerated
tempo were instituted from 1827 Lancastrian schools, that were teaching with innovative methods, from 1828 district schools, and in 1833 a Regional Lyceum in Chisinau. Our researches showed that the education in Bessarabia evolved under direct political and ideological influence of Russian Empire. Thus based on archival and published materials we may ascertain that educational system in
Bessarabia formed under general and moment needs of Russian government. Textually the educational regulations imposed in Bessarabia were identical to those Russian laws. The school represented the prototype of Russian school but initially with two languages of teaching. Still in 1870s only the Russian language remained, Romanian being completely excluded. As a conclusion the educational system implemented in Bessarabia was conceived as a mechanism of Russification of local population. |
