Giulio Cesare Croce della Lirra’s novel‚ Bertoldo, has gain a record of tributes over time and has benefited from the attention of researchers in this field. In the book Bertoldo’s Life. An old Romanian manuscript the linguist Galaction Verebceanu analyzes the language of Bertoldo manuscript (pre-edition from 1774, found at the Moscow State Historical Museum) from the graphic, phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical points of view, making reference to literary norms of the time. The researcher intends and finally manages to elucidate some aspects regarding neological borrowings (at the level of epoch language), the wealth of synonyms, stylistic expressiveness, and linguistic usage. The book also contains the manuscript’s facsimiles, indicating phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical differences between the researched text and the one kept in the Romanian Academy Library, which has many common features with the Moscow version.
