Abuse of power is a very old practice. There have always been people who have had aggressive behavior who exploited the weaknesses of others for their benefit. We will not enter into the discussion of whether there is more violence now or before but it has been going on for years and has produced an increase in the general perception of violence as a problem (Elliot, 1997). Norwegian Dan Olweus defines bullying as a behavior of physical and/or psychological follow-up of one student against another. Aggression is carried out by repeated attacks on the chosen victim. This action, negative and intentional, places the victim in a position that can hardly get out of it with forces. Bullying leads to decreased self-esteem, anxiety and even depression, which makes it difficult to integrate into the school environment and develop normal learning (Olweus 1983). From Olweus' studies, other European countries also began research on school violence: England, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. |
