Meaning in life is an important concept in psychological research proving multiple associations with other concepts such as psychological well-being (1), motivation, and a sense of fulfilled life (2). This is a pilot study targeting a group of fifty elderly people in Romania living in a Residential Center in Bucharest. Method: the research uses correlation analysis for the variables: the presence of meaning and the search for meaning (M. Steger's MLQ questionnaire) defined as independent variables in the study and dependent variables: quality of life (EQ-5D-5L questionnaire), perceived social support (MSPSS) and life satisfaction (SWLS). Descriptive statistics and the Pearson correlation test (S.P.S.S.) were used in the data processing. Results: negative statistically significant correlations of strong intensity (coefficient of -0.998) are confirmed between the descriptive health scale EQ and the presence of meaning in life. Positive, statistically significant correlations, of strong intensity (coefficient of 0.970 and 0.876 respectively) between the Presence of meaning in life and the variables visual scale EQ as well as the satisfaction with life, are confirmed. Negative statistically significant correlations of strong intensity (coefficient of -0.942) between the scale of perceived social support and the scale of the search for the meaning of life are confirmed. The presence of meaning in life is the only variable for which statistically significant multiple links are confirmed with the dependent variable’s quality of life and satisfaction with life. |
