Rezumat

The article deals with the didactical principle of conscious approach and activity in teaching the English language in schools and universities of the Republic of Moldova. Proper knowledge of the sound system of both the foreign language and the mother tongue, to a great extent, ease the process of the English language learning. The availability of comparative facts of the mother tongue and foreign language are necessary for conscious mastering of a language. The learners get to know grammatical phenomena parallel with the phonetical peculiarities
