In the 21st century, education systems face ineffable challenges which are dictated by social, economic and technological changes. Issues faced by academic staff are becoming highly demanding when it comes to teaching Generation Z disciples, children who were born and grew up in a digital environment. As a result, they are getting strongly digitalised, but, at the same time, much more flexible than the previous generation. Today‟s students want to make creative and efficient decisions faster and they are more likely to be engaged in educational endeavours. They also aspire to a much more open communication with faculty members and institutional managers. In the context where the roles of both the student and the teacher are reconceptualised, problem-based learning (PBL) strategy has proved to be imperative. For students, the PBL model harmonizes perfectly well with their value and behavioural structures. Or, PBL brings innovation and creativity and it gives the learners great opportunities to identify real-life problems and to come up with relevant solutions through research, experimentation and implementation. |
