Analyzing identity issues in printed media, we will start from the phenomenon of “resistance through culture” in the Soviet period to the acquiring of “national consciousness” and the strengthening of cultural identity in post-communism. This investigative path involves the identification of relevant examples in the subject matter and issues addressed in the cultural press of the time (Literatura si Arta/Literature and Art, Nistru/Bessarabia, Sud-Est Cultural/ Cultural South-East and Contrafort/Counterfort), in book production (border literature - memoirs and diaries, autobiographical essays, various conversations, etc., but also in fiction books in which identity issues are presented). As a corollary to the stated thematic axes, the first two editions of the “Colocviilor revistei Sud-Est”/ South-East Magazine Colloquiums – „Teatrul în căutarea identităţii”/Theatre in search of identity, as well as “Cultura şi integrarea europeană”/Culture and European integration can be considered. We also aim to elucidate the identity tensions in the “odyssey of the struggle for the Romanian language” (Mihai Cimpoi), when the true national, linguistic and cultural identity of the Moldovans from beyond the Prut was put in brackets.
