Throughout his creative activity, the author’s style of the Master of Art Igor Vieru (1923-1988) underwent some changes. We observe in the first book illustrations, made by the artist during the 1950s, perfect knowledge of the principles of the realistic style in the lyrical-epic approaches to nature. Towards the 1960s, the monumental principles of approaching shapes and volumes in combination with decorative elements will also be observed in the book graphics signed by the artist. Although several of his illustrations were miniature in size, the compositional schemes, linear, tonal and coloristic formal-stylistic principles often had a certain dose of monumentality, still preserving the lyrical character. We notice similar features in the illustrations to Eminescu poetry, in the book „Our Language” by A. Mateevici (1960), in the tale „Goat with three kids” by I. Creangă (1960s and republished in the 1990s), „Păcală and Tândală” (1966, paper, linocut), to „The Story of Harap-Alb” by I. Creangă (1973-1974), etc. Each of these examples reveals the talent and the mastery, reflecting the unique features of the artistic means discovered by the visual artist Igor Vieru.
