This article examines the importance of knowledge by the representatives of the ethnic communities in the Republic of Moldova of the history, culture and traditions of their own community, as well as of the other cohabiting ethnicities. The programs of the basic subjects from the general education level are examined: Romanian and Universal History, Education forsociety. The role of the optional subjects: History, culture and traditions of the Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Russian, Gagauz, Roma peoples, as well as the courses: Intercultural Education, Discover Moldova, is analyzed. The specialties and disciplines of several universities in the Republic of Moldova are described, as well asthe experience of the "Lower Danube" University in Galați, Romania, in knowing and capitalizing on the specifics of culture and traditions of ethnic communities. At the end of the article, some arguments are presented for increasing the efforts of educational institutions in highlighting the aspects that unite all communities in the Romanian space.
