This article examines present state of American studies – the study of the United States that recently became a flourishing global academic enterprise for the benefit of mutual understanding between peoples and countries as the best road to peaceful and prosperous world. It focuses on democratic ideal and cosmopolitan values - these most characteristic features of American studies and the subject of the given academic discipline, which develops worldwide in a form of intercultural dialog. A special place of Russian school of Amerikanistik in this international movement of thought is considered with hope that Moldovan science will follow this example of thoughtful learning of American democratic experience.
