| Rezumat | ||||||
The present article touches upon the delimitation of the common and distinctive particularities of the English monophthong /ɑ:/ and the Romanian /ɑ/ in order to prevent mistakes and inaccuracies concerning the articulation and pronunciation of the English monophtong /ɑ:/. The quality of a posterior vowel as well as the length/duration of /ɑ:/ monophtong, which should be respected, presents one of the serious problems while learning it by the Romanian language speakers. In teaching the English phoneme /ɑ:/, it is necessary to mention, that this monophthong undergoes certain phonetical modifications dependent on the position it occupies in the word and by the fact that it is rendered by 27 letters and digraphes. |
