Over the last few years the efforts of many specialists in this domain have been embodied in the third volume of the Book of Moldova (XVII – the beginning of XX centuries). Vol. 3 entitled Contemporary books (XIX – the beginning of XX centuries). General catalog has been recently issued under the auspices of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova. It has been prepared by E. Sanduta, T. Placinta, V. Farmagiu (NLRM), C. Slutu-Grama, (PhD, Library of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova), N. Matei and P. Cojuhari (NLRM). The editorial board was composed of Alexe Rau (PhD, Director General of the NLRM), Andrei Eshanu (scientific editor, academician, Doctor of history ), and Pavel Balmush (literary scholar, member of the Writers' Union of Moldova. The catalog is structured in compliance with the principles of science. In the foreword the compilers have mentioned that this volume is a continuation of the two previously published ones, and that its purpose is “to familiarize the scientific workers in the field ... with the repertoire of the documents published in this period, and to highlight the value of the national book treasury”.
