The author, very skeptical of the traditional presumption of a „synthetic” (e.g. suffixal) infinitive having existed once in (pre)Albanian, has always defended his own version, based on observed facts, of the origin of the real (confixal) me ba type infinitive, once common Albanian, as a former comitative prepositive of the participle-based action noun, later a gerund, then reinterpreted in contexts common to it and the infinitive, as the latter. However, the old (very unrealistic) version, should it some time, beyond expectation, be confirmed, would not exclude ours in case if the presumed „synthetic” infinitive preceded by me could form gerund like constructions (cf. Sp. con hacer, It. col fare, Rom. prin a face) later reinterpreted as infinitives as it is observed now (see above).
