The essay, Stere and the Bessarabian world, is a meditation about the role Constantin Stere played in the Bessarabian culture. The writer became a symbol of a special destiny,
the one of a martyr, the ethic symbol of Romanian democracy. Stere’s destiny is typically Bessarabian, following the entire phenomenological odyssey of predestination: alienation,
suffering the „terror of times”, „returning to Ithaca”, a redeemer direction towards the Centre. He sums a plenary high feeling of heroism, of steps, limits, walls, waves (Stere’s key-word). Stere’s whole life and activity illustrates and substantializes his own philosophical thinking of the Human-fighter that substitutes the Human-worm. The quality of a Bessarabian Romanian mentioned frequently in his discourses doesn’t allow him to hesitate when promoting and keeping the national ideal. |
