With few exceptions, until recently, the rare works devoted to the phenomenology of self-translation focused on authors studied in a broad and complex manner, whose work belongs to the international literary canon. Many of the analyzes of the self-translations of writers such as Samuel Beckett, Julien Green or James Joyce adopt the lens of bilingualism and contrastive linguistics. Theorists have largely developed research focused on Beckettian bilingualism, attempting to assess its proficiency in French and English. The title of the paper is inspired by Grutman Rainer’s study “L’autotraduction: de la galerie de portraits à la galaxie des langues” and is included in the list of the most read articles published in no. 25 of the biannual sociolinguistics journal Glottopol. Based on this study, the author will present and explain the systemic scope of the self-translation act.
