Rezumat

The concept of forensic psychological expertise sheds light on the specialized psychological evaluation of individuals involved in legal proceedings. Regardless of the individuals or institutional settings that have brought it to the forefront, granting it the status of a preferential investigative topic, and regardless of the forms it takes, the concept in question is defined by the following key aspects: (i) it constitutes an expression of research activity with a scientific-practical character carried out within the framework of criminal, civil, and/or contraventional proceedings, at the request of the prosecuting authority, the court, or the parties involved; (ii) it involves the application of specialized scientific knowledge and procedures to formulate reasoned conclusions about the psychological condition of individuals who have committed violations of legal norms; (iii) it takes into account the engagement of individuals with special training as experts, with studies in general and forensic psychology, tasked with providing valuable information to the legal process (without which the prosecuting authority or the court cannot form a relevant opinion); (iv) it emphasizes the issuance of a forensic psychological expertise report by the respective experts - psychologists, and (v) it presents specialized psychological evaluation of individuals involved in legal proceedings as a distinct activity that should not be confused with psychiatric expertise or psychosocial investigation.
