Rezumat

On September 26, 2023 we will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous architect and amazing artist of the first half of the XXth century A.V. Shchusev (1873–1949). Alexeу Viktorovich was born in 1873 in Chisinau on Leovskaya Street (today Shchusev Street, where the museum of this architect is located). After graduating in 1897 with a gold medal from the Higher Petersburg Art School, A. V. Shchusev was awarded the title of artist-architect with the right to rank X class and was already able to independently engage in own buildings. In 1899 he studied in France with professors J. Lefevre and R. Fleury, who initially said that Shchusev drew well, but incorrectly. It was here that he achieved perfection and accuracy, as well as correctness in the construction of form, which were considered the main advantages of drawing. Shchusev wrote that “although he was an architect, he always loved painting. Repin, Kuindzhi believed that he drew well and encouraged him”. Shchusev worked simultaneously in architecture, painting and drawing and was known as a good draftsman. Doing the research referring to the many-sided architectural creativity of academician Shchusev, in the article the author presents only the most important drawings of this great Master, including his designs of the Orthodox Church in Cuhuresti de sus and a shelter for the children of fallen soldiers near the city of Chisinau, etc. Thus, during his 76 years of life, A.V. Shchusev managed to fully realize his talent not only as an outstanding architect and amazing artist, but as the becoming the author of a masterpiece in the construction of a mausoleum on the Red Square in Moscow. He became a laureate of four Stalin Prizes, educated more than one generation of talented architects and created a lot of beautiful monuments included in the treasury of world art.
