In the recent years, teachers’ attention has recently been drawn to the issue of integrating cultural elements into training and education through the use of foreign languages. The shift in the sociocultural priorities of language instruction is caused by the intensifying cross-national interactions. The goal of teaching a foreign language is to help students develop their linguistic identity as well as their ability to communicate. This fact contributes to the emergence of novel ideas in the study of teaching foreign languages. They are sociocultural training and intercultural communication concepts. This article discusses the importance of incorporating sociocultural competence into EFL classes for upper -intermediate English language proficiency students as well as the necessity of doing so in the context of culture, its values, and society for effective communication based on sociocultural knowledge. |
