Rezumat

Cumulative tales represent a special category of folk texts with formulistic framework. In cumulative tales, the same action unit or formula is reiterated throughout the story emphasizing the key moments in the story, such as successive encounters that the protagonist makes, places he visits, etc. The article examines the formal characteristics of this type of folktales with the view to identifying the specific arrangements of the narrative pattern and the role these may carry on speech development, language learning, and the conceptualization of immediate reality.
