The ascension of Constantin Cantemir to the throne of Moldavia in 1685 was a very important moment for the stabilization of the situation here. For decades, battles have been taking place in the territory near Moldova between the great powers for supremacy. After a period of peace in Polish-Ottoman relations determined by the Zurawno armistice, after 1683, Poland joined the Habsburg Empire in its conflict with the Ottoman Empire. Moldova has become a battlefield between Poles and Turks. Despite all his efforts, the Poles did not succeed in imposing themselves in Moldova, even though they actually ruled the northern part of Moldova.
