The article contains the analyze of various opinions concerning the NATO’s policy, which is geared towards the continued strengthening of the Alliance in order to face the new threats and challenges of the 21st century. NATO transformation involves the adhering of new members and developing new capabilities and relationships with partner countries. NATO remains firm for the transatlantic cooperation, for securing the fundamental interests of security and collective defence and for promoting democratic values. The strategic and geographical expansion of NATO by approaching the CIS borders will not end here. NATO military strategies do not conceal their plans to North Africa and other areas, and representatives of a number of African countries already take part in meetings within the Alliance’s headquarters. In any security system there is a report of the political, economic and military structures and of the corresponding actions, which change in one or the other depending on the political-military situation created. In the absence of real military dangers of an appropriate magnitude, the report changes in favour of political measures and institutions, and the importance of important military factors is reduced. NATO’s role should now be reduced, and the significance of European political and economic institutions (OSCE, EC and EU), of the negotiation process to increase. |
