The intimate landscape of the monastic life of Japca monastery is drastically changed by the explosive stories told us by mother Maria (Lydia Dohtorova). Mother Maria presents a dichotomous picture of Japca - on one hand, we find her as a lay sister, on the other hand,there are the others – mothers and abbess. The polarity between mother Maria's identity and the otherness of her background is shaped by everyday life of the holy place. |
