Introduction. The psychological General Well-Being (GWB) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is considered to be low, but is not clear how it is influenced by pulmonary involvement. Aim. To study the GWB in SLE patients with pulmonary implication and its correlation with disease activity. Methods. Consecutive hospitalised SLE patients were investigated. Psychological GWB was assessed applying the questionnaire, expressed by a summary score, where: 0-60 is a poor level, 61-72 - moderate and 73-110 a good level of well-being. The disease activity was appreciated by SLEDAI. Results. The study group included 69 SLE patients with a mean age of 41,9(±12,4) years, disease duration - 7,72(±6,8) years and disease activity - 10,9(±7,8) points. Patients with pulmonary involvement - 26(37,7%), had GWB summary score of 56,6(±11,6), qualified as severe distress. A low level of well-being was detected in 17(65,4%) patients with pulmonary implication vs 12(27,9%) in reference group (p<0,05). Psychological GWB correlated moderately with SLEDAI (r = -0,42, p<0,01), and weakly with respiratory involvement (r= -0,32, p<0,01). Conclusion. General Well-Being score showed poor results more frequent in SLE patients with pulmonary involvement vs patients without them. The level of psychological GWB in SLE patients has a negative correlation with the disease activity. |
