Background. Influenza viruses and the SARS-CoV-2 virus present with respiratory diseases, which could have a mild, moderate or severe form of the disease - which includes severe pneumonia. Influenza and Covid-19 infection are extremely widespread and are characterized by pandemics. Objective of the study. Early detection of patients with suspected influenza or Covid-19 infection. Presentation of the differential diagnosis, clinical and paraclinical data in children with influenza, in relation to patients with Covid-19 infection. Material and Methods. The study included 130 patients with influenza and 110 patients with Covid-19 infection, hospitalized in the Municipal Clinical Hospital of Contagious Diseases for Children, during the years 2019-2020. The retrospective study was performed based on data obtained from observation sheets of patients aged 3 months to 17 years, which were confirmed by PCR methods. Results. Clinical signs that were more specific to influenza: sudden onset, hyperthermia, chills, cough, sore throat, dyspnea, erythematous conjunctivitis. In children with Covid-19, the most common were: anosmia, dysgeusia, rhinorrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, myalgia, arthralgia. Pneumonia was a more common complication in Covid-19 infection. The duration of hospitalization was shorter in influenza compared to Covid-19 infection. Conclusion. Although both diseases have a viral etiology and a similar clinical picture, different evolutionary manifestations have been observed in patients with more severe forms of the disease. |
