It is known that, in interpreting Paul Goma’s texts, we should take into consideration the biographic principle and not the editorial chronology. The novel Astra (The Astra), initially named Biblioteca (The Library), is his third novel, in the sense that it continues the biographical events presented chronologically in the previous two, Din Calidor (From the Corridor) and Arta refugii (the Art of Refuge). In this novel the author presents his adolescence and studies in the high school of Sibiu. The fact that the bolshevists purged the Astra library of the best books deeply affected the young Paul. At the same time, the novel represents as well poetry of the first adolescent erotic emotions.
