In the specialty literature, there is a distinction between general neology, terminological neology or neonymy and neologisms of common use, as well as specialized and terminological ones, also called neonyms (new denominations) and neosemes (new meanings). Neonyms establish themselves as a denominative necessity and prove to be more stable over time in comparison to the neologisms of common use, presenting the net characteristics of an intentional manifestation. Therefore, neonymy works in the case of terminology vacuum. Several papers show that strictly from the formal point of view, neologisms and neonyms share the same methods of formation, available in any language. Even though there are some differences between general and specialized neology (neonymy), there are also some opinions that nowadays in the „terminological information era” (Depecker), the theory and the metodology of research in the specialty neology has to be reconsidered. |
