Cannabis users with legal problems are a category with some psychosocial characteristics that require a psychological intervention that must take into account the specific aspects of the cannabis, history and pattern of consumption, comorbidities, and antisocial elements. One such recommended psychological intervention is psychoeducation, which has been shown to be effective in raising awareness of risks, achieving and maintaining abstinence, preventing relapse, and reducing the symptoms associated with addiction. In this article we aim to define psychoeducation and to analyze the particularities of its application in counseling sessions with cannabis users with legal problems. Psychoeducation sessions can be offered individually and / or within a group of consumers, taking into account possible compatibility between members. Also, psychoeducation is recommended in the case of families or relatives of people who access psychological counseling services, because they in turn need to know the problem of addictions and make some changes in relationships with consumers. Psychoeducation is part of the category of short-term interventions, proves its usefulness both in prevention programs associated with cannabis use and during the implementation of the psychological counseling program, and if it is delivered in the style of motivational interview also contributes to the development of intrinsic motivation necessary to achieve the objectives of counseling.
