A growing demand for more environmentally-friendly methods to control plant pests and diseases has resulted in increased use of Biological Pesticides. Microbial Pesticides (also called microbial plant protection products) consist of bacteria, fungi or viruses (and sometimes include the metabolites that bacteria or fungi produce) used as active substances of biopesticides to control different kinds of plant or crop pests. MPs are subjected to hazard and risk assessments before their market authorization, in a similar way to chemical pesticides.
