Rezumat

The article describes various ways of approaching the process of formative and summative assessment, as the assessment has an important role in education and a critical role in the teaching process. Through proper assessment, teachers can monitor and report student progress, provide feedback, know how effective their instructional strategies have been, and know what new knowledge students have gained from the instruction provided. Teachers can structure their teaching based on the three basic principles of assessment: validity, reliability, and feasibility. The importance of the addressed topic stems from the complex purpose of studies in both secondary and higher education, as well as the high labour market demands that contribute to the training of specialists through a quality didactic process. One of the requirements demanded by employers from graduates is the possession of one or more foreign languages. Assessment and its characteristics are part of the process of teaching and learning foreign languages.
