Background. Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is an inheritable bleeding disorder, autosomal dominant transmitted, that represents one of the most common and severe forms of hemorrhagic diathesis of children. Objective of the study. Determination of essential clinical manifestations, as well as quantitative and qualitative assessment of Von Willebrand factor, that in case of deficiency causes coagulation disorders. Material and methods. Within the Department of Hematology and General Pediatrics, Institute of Mother and Child, during the period 2021-2022, 28 patients (19 girls and 9 boys) with Von Willebrand disease were supervised and evaluated clinically and paraclinically, aged between 1 and 17 years. Results. The disease manifests for both boys and girls, but more obvious clinical signs appear at puberty of girls. The most common clinical manifestations are epistaxis (46.2%), gingivorrhagia (20.1%), menorrhagia (15.4%), ecchymoses (10.2%), hemarthrosis (5.12%), rectorrhagia (2.5%). Following the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of Von Willebrand factor, the causal factor deficiency was established for all patients. Genetic confirmation is a method of high precision, but technically more difficult to perform today. Conclusion. The results of the study confirmed the prevalence of the disease in case of girls compared to boys (2:1). Microcirculatory hemorrhages are characteristic, such as epistaxis (46.2%) and less frequently gastrointestinal bleeding (2.5%) that corresponds to the data from the specialized literature. |
