The dramatic changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic in people's lives are reflected at all levels of human existence (personal, social, professional, economic) having a negative impact on mental and somatic health. During this difficult time for humanity, psychology is looking for solutions to restore psychological balance, the harmony so necessary for health, which is reflected in the state of physical health. Meaning in life and loneliness are two valuable concepts in positive psychology, age psychology, and psychotherapy. Previous research highlights the negative association of the two concepts in the sense that a low level of meaning in life is connected with high-level feelings of loneliness. The current study aims to highlight the importance of the two concepts for the psychological well-being of individuals, referring to recent studies, to emphasize the importance of meaning in life and social relationships in old age. Addressing mental disorders and applying the principles of positive psychology highlighted by Viktor Frankl in Logotherapy, we can teach people to find meaning and significance in the hardest trials of life and at the same time help them not to feel alone and isolated. This is a pilot study aimed at the elderly, from Romania, who live in a Residential Center in Bucharest. The research aims at the correlation between the meaning of life in the elderly, the feeling of loneliness, and the mood. The study follows the line of recent research on the meaning of life and loneliness detailed in the project. |
