Rezumat | ||||||
Due to the increasing digitisation and rapid development of Web 2.0 technologies in recent years, new opportunities have become available to support the teaching and learning process. Although initially many teachers were reluctant to use computers and Internet applications in their classrooms for various reasons, nowadays they have a more positive opinion on the implementation of information and communications technology in education. The shift in attitude is the result of the fact that teachers’ experience of incorporating ICT in their curricula and numerous experimental studies in the field have proved the effectiveness of these tools in enhancing teaching and learning. The present article is also intended to demonstrate that ICT is helpful in education, but it restricts its focus to the potential of Web 2.0 technologies for the development of reading skills. It reviews six Web 2.0 resources, highlighting their main features and showing how they can improve EFL students’ reading. The article indicates that even the online applications that are not primarily targeted on reading can be useful in raising the level of learners’ comprehension of written English. Nonetheless, the major finding to emerge from this study is that Web 2.0 tools are quite valuable in the process of teaching and learning reading, as, being oriented to both teachers and students, they are doubly beneficial. |
