The society is conformed in a way that it cannot exist without leaders. By releasing forces concentrated in the society, their personality is a factor of primary importance in running daily life. While being demanded insistently, the leader, speaking in Freudian language, resolves the issues of the community similarly as a father does in settling family issues. Who is supposed to be a leader? Having been for a long time in the focus of the researchers, this question implied the evolvement of four interpretative models: charismatic authority model, personality traits model, situational and transactional models. After a closer analysis of the four models, one can state an obvious evolution from the theories excessively focused on analyzing the managerial behavior, towards theories focused on studying interactions between the personality traits of the leader and type or requirements of the managerial situation. Regardless of the manner in which manager, situation or group traits are identified, all of those theories have one common contingency idea. |
