The terms denoting diseases in Daco-Romanian dialect can be divided, like all the nominative units, into two categories: motivated and unmotivated terms. The folk terms created in Daco-Romanian are motivated by the symptom of the disease, the severity of the disease, the sick organ, the cause of the disease, the way the disease occurs, the worsening of the disease, the general characteristics of the diseases, the symptoms common to a number of (human or animal) diseases etc. Affectivity, especially the euphemistic or ironic attitude of the speaker, plays an important role in naming diseases. |
