Rezumat

The article describes the features of the journalistic work of Vasile Alexandrescu Urechia who played an important role, as far as Romanian press is concerned, in the second part of XIX century. The Romanian scholar inferred, since university years, in the pre-Unionist period, the importance of press in public opinion formation, therefore he founded, at the beginning of his activity, the most important Unionist newspaper in Paris and remained faithful to his vocation throughout life, being the founder and member of the editorial boards of many periodicals in Romania. In V.A. Urechia’s publicistic activity several stages can be distinguished, mainly, in terms of political involvement. His publicistics claimed the unification of Principalities and Romanian patriotism. Believed as the parent of „Romanism” (concept built in 1858), Urechia emphasizes in his publicistics the national feeling of Romanian people, the Romanian ethnogenesis, Latin descend, Romanian territorial continuity and permanence. Even if his literary and historic work was questioned and relatively forgotten by his successors, Urechia proved through his vast journalistic activity, genuine journalistic qualities. He published a vast range of materials: articles, informative materials, official discourses, university courses, historical, literary and didactic writings and studies, translations, etc. In the present article the authors demonstrated the contribution of V. A. Urechia’s political-patriotic publicistics and his role in the development of the Romanian press.
