Scarves in the sky (Cartier, 2012) by Dumitru Crudu is a thrilling book about life and death. The poem was born from personal experience: the agony and death of his mother-in-law, at whose head even the author and his wife watched. The poet becomes a witness of life passing into death. He is shaken and made to bring out his trance condition that is turned completely into his writing. The poet is likely to programmatically refuse the use of poetic conventions. The phrase in the poem is made spontaneously and freely in an avalanche of confessions-scenes-thoughts-direct associations which follow only the internal rhythm of living. The hope of life is hardly seen; it happens only after the death experience is assumed and lived with the character’s each pore. |
