It is easy to observe that the idolatry of the „monitor culture”, which attracts „the small screenfans” through TV seduction, promotes a new modus vivendi equivalent to a religious ritual both fantastic and time-consuming. Apart from the addiction syndrome, psychologically speaking, this „ritual” generates, on a sociological level, a rich social pathology which has been irresponsibly ignored so far. So much so that the repeatedly acclaimed media pedagogy becomes a stringent necessity of our epoch/ age, decreeing a „hygienic distance” from the invasion of the media culture which stupefies the public. Just how efficient could this critical examination be? – is a fair enough question; could it ensure the immunity of the social organism? Especially now when even politics is made via mass-media; „the magic state” activating teletropism (the spectator’s condition) at the expense of civics, calls for and imposes a new concept: videocracy which degrades and discredits the political discourse through populism and exhibitionism. |
