There are notorious names of great writers who are found in the pages of history being represented by their prolific master pieces, as well there are personalities who perpetuate their existence in the collective conscience for the creation of a single expression full of ingenuity and wit. Famous expressions, functional phrasemes along with collocations and phrases hold a crucial position in the architecture of any language; both in the standard register of the literary and the ordinary aspects. These mostly stable linguistic constructions, have been eternalized over time, accumulating the intensity of universal contemplation as well as national characteristics, which, due to the often authentic and heterogeneous linguistic combinations, are capable of a plasticized idea imposing on communication a dose of notoriety. In the general language and languages for specific purposes, renowned expressions are used, but whose etymology and often meanings are difficult to identify, so we shall tackle the particularities and distinction of a vast range of phrases and specific linguistic formulae. This article will explore several famous expressions, that belong to the specialized language, namely diplomatic language – our field of study, but which also slip into the general language. We will make a journey through the semantic valences of some well-known and lesser-known phrases; therefore, we aim to elucidate the meaning and the origin of the expressions, nevertheless the history or the legend that stands behind them.
