One of the essential characteristics of modern demographic development is the spread of non-marital births, meaning that a significant proportion of children are born to mothers who are not in a registered marriage. The increase in the share of non-marital births in European countries is a natural consequence of profound changes in the matrimonial and reproductive behavior of the population in the postindustrial era. Social and demographic government policies will be effective if they correspond to new demographic realities, are scientifically substantiated, and implemented with the principles of targeting, flexibility, individual approach. The states that have created favorable conditions for the realization of the childbearing plans of all women, regardless of the form of marital relations they are in, by providing economic security and institutional support, achieve great success in the demographic policy in the field of fertility. The age profile of extramarital births is gradually changing (the “contribution” of women under the age of 20 to non-marital births rate is decreasing), but in many countries the problem of early (teenage) births has not been solved. The adoption of programs aimed at preventing early births remains relevant. |
