One of the most vulnerable groups of population are children. The socioeconomic conditions of the households with children affect directly the welfare of children. The COVID-19 crisis consequences like: job losses, accentuation of the food insecurity, financial insecurity, accentuating debt, pessimistic attitudes and other consequences have affected the socioeconomic situation of households with children. Moldova is one of the countries that was badly affected by COVID-19 and by its social, economic consequences and of other type. The purpose of this article is to assess the recent evolution of the socioeconomic situation of children in the Republic of Moldova and to identify the main trends in this field. The main methods of research used in the paper are: statistical analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction. As the data source for the analysis was used the statistical data from National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova. The data analysis cover three socioeconomic aspects of children: social protection; infractionality and the situation of households with children. The research has shown that the most important change in the socioeconomic situation of children during the pandemic period is the prioritization of expenditures of their households of basic commodities like food, home maintenance and clothing and footwear in detriment of other expenditures. |
