Background. Alcohol abuse is a major worldwide problem. Over 7300 cases of alcoholism in women were reported nationally. The subject of alcohol dependence among women is under-researched and requires further investigation, particularly from a biopsychosocial point of view. Objective of the study. The aim of this research was to study the clinical, evolutionary and age-related differential diagnostic features. Material and Methods. The research sample consisted of 28 women, aged 20 to 65, diagnosed with mental and behavioural disorders due to use of alcohol. The tool used to collect the data was the Standardized Questionnaire of Alcohol Addiction and Psychosis. Microsoft Excel was used to analyse the statistical data. Results. Distribution by age groups: 8 (28.57%) women aged 20-35; 9 (32.14%) women aged 36-50; 11 (39.29%) women aged 51-65. Alcoholism risk factors are: paternal history of alcoholism (42.86%), family conflicts (50.00%), unemployment (67.86%), divorce (53.57%), lack of interests (50.00%). According to age, women aged 20-35 are more prone to anxiety (87.50%), show no interest for work and passions (75.00%) and tend to engage in hazardous drinking (37.50%). Patients aged 36 to 50 use alcohol to deal with negative family environment (55.56 %), infidelity (44.44 %), and unemployment (44.44 %). Women aged 51-65 use alcohol to self-medicate (90.91%) and drink alone (100.00 %). Conclusion. The results suggest that formation of alcoholism in women is significantly impacted by psychological, hereditary and socio-economic factors. The age-related characteristics in female patients should be considered when developing more effective treatments best adapted to individual variability. |
