The article examines the establishment and development of the Republic of Mol-
dova, as a state, in the last two decades, highlighting the problems and difficulties
faced by our country in these years of independence. Particular attention is given to
the national political elites and civil society advancement in Moldova in the linkage to
the state development. The authors concluded that the establishment of a prosperous
society with a stable democracy and a high level of economic development is decisively
determined by the capacity of the state institutions, the political elite and the civil so-
ciety to become aware of the need to deepen and strengthen democracy in the context
of Moldovan society’s Europeanization.
