Rezumat

In this article, we analyze the drawings of the artist Victor Ivanov, which was born 110 years ago. The most important historiographical source about the artist’s oeuvre is the album about his creation, signed by art critic Dmitri Golțov. The basis of the research consists of landscapes and portraits made in various graphic materials. In this this paper, for the first time some of the works are being studied, for instance early work “Negru River. Baia Mare”. Based on the analysis of the drawings, we can conclude that V. Ivanov skillfully mastered a variety of graphic techniques, through which he could expressively and convincingly explore the surrounding reality or express personal perception in synthetic graphic compositions. Artist continues the portrait drawing tradition learned from one of his teachers Alexandru Plămădeală in School of Fine Arts. In his portraits the artist was very tenacious to express inner world of his model. Works like “self-portrait” (1930), “Portrait of the miner” (1955), “Portrait of a girl” (1961) show the mastery of the pencil drawing technique. In compositional structures, we can see a rational attitude with shades of romantic perception of surrounding reality, especially in mountain landscapes
