The paper provides the information on the research work of the Biochemistry, Physiology and Biotechnology Laboratory of Crop Science Institute "Porumbeni" during 40 years of activity. It is demonstrated a large range of biochemical studies of the chemical composition for many agricultural crops breeding materials. For the culture of Zea mays L. there is presented the information on a wide range of researchs in the aspect of biochemical genetics and breeding to improve the quality. There are analyzed the results of the physiological bases study of resistance to thermal stresses with the aim of selection of drought-resistant and cold-resistant lines and hybrids of maize. The efficiency of using biotechnological methods by creating somaclonal forms of maize, virus-free potato varieties, technology development micropropagation of potato and stevia. There are presented the main achievements of the lab over the past four decades and outlined the prospects further studies of lab research team. |
