Rezumat

Started as a health crisis, or maybe, more accurately said, a public health crisis, the pandemic generated by the new coronavirus proved to be not only the trigger but also the indicator of a deep societal crisis which human kind has been undergoing for a while now. Loomed by the mirage of “well being” or maybe that of “power”, constantly chasing, up to exhaustion, “a better future” we almost completely forgot about the crucial need for a “safer future”. Pandemics aren’t “new things” to take us by surprise, be they “the Spanish flu” of the beginning of the XXth century or the ones that followed in the contemporary times, or the ones that haunted the Middle Ages (the plague, cholera etc.). Even though they have been almost a “norm” throughout history, the human kind doesn’t seem to have developed the necessary skills to confront pandemics, each of them taking us by surprise, insufficiently prepared. And by this we are not referring to the “antidote/vaccine” so necessary in such situations! We are all aware of the fact that such a solution requires time for research, testing, approval and, subsequently, production in large quantities. But what is left for us to do in all this time up to the emergence of the antidote? This is the question the authors attempt to approach an answer to expected and necessary by and to everybody.
