Rezumat

The term „life skills” emerged in the end of 20th century and has gained worldwide usage with particular currency in the fields of health, education and social policy. International definitions of „life skills” converge on personal and social (interpersonal) domains of behavior as well as psychosocial skills. Different classifications of life skills are set up by international organizations such as World Health Organization, World Bank, UNICEF. Lately, there is a strong international emphasis on life skills education and its inclusion in formal and non-formal educational activities. In Moldova the concept of „life skills” arrived in 2000 through child rights initiatives promoted by UNICEF. The first tangible results were several guides for teachers and facilitators to encourage education for development and empowerment of children and youth. In 2005 a Life Skills subject was introduced in the Moldovan general schools but shortly withdrawn due to the sensitive component on sexual education. Presently, life skills education in Moldova is included in the Civic Education subject, class mentorship curriculum as well as optional courses and extracurricular activities.
