The paper refers to an aspect that was almost unexplored and little known, regarding the activity of a remarkable man of culture, leader of the national unionist movement, vice-president and president of Sfatul Țării (Country Council), who voted the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, Pantelimon Halippa (1883-1979). On the basis of original documents we reveal way the great Bessarabian patriot obtained, held, and accomplished the presidential function of the Romanian Social Institute in Bessarabia (1934-1940), the first scientific research institute in our country, a branch of the Romanian Social Institute in Bucharest (1921-1948). Also, we emphasize Pan Halippa’s contribution to the establishment of the Regional Sociological Institute, and his dedicated work regarding the organization and conduct of the activity of this institution on the planned and corresponding directions of the assumed mission, of the scientific research of the social life of Bessarabia.
